Society History

Qing Long Tai Chi Arts Society was founded in spring 2021 by Sean Cloete. Sean brings to the society 31 years of instructional experience in Tai Chi, is a dedicated student of Mr. Moy Lin Shin, and focuses on helping others through the practice of this art. With the support of current members, Sean established Qing Long Tai Chi Arts Society to continue Mr. Moy's teachings and values. In February 2022, the society was incorporated as a non-profit organization aiming to improve individuals' health and well-being through the Tai Chi Arts handed down from Mr. Moy.

Practicing Tai Chi is a lifelong journey that enhances all aspects of life and is not meant to replace other training or spiritual paths. It is a means to enhance ourselves and help others. Daily practice and dedication lead to positive results, relationships, and harmony, inspiring others along on the same path.

The Qinglong Dragon, also known as the Azure Dragon, is a revered guardian of Taoist Temples. Qinglong symbolizes spring, with wood as his element and blue as his colour. Known for his just and benevolent nature, Qinglong is believed to bring wealth and good fortune. He is also regarded as a symbol of the Emperor, guiding the ruler to make righteous decisions at all times.

Sean Cloete

Sean Cloete discovered tai chi when he was 24 years old, at a time when he was facing various health issues. Feeling isolated from his peers, he decided to dedicate all his free time to studying Mr. Moy’s style of Yang tai chi. Through this practice, Sean experienced a remarkable improvement in his health. He continued his training under the guidance of Mr. Moy and his emissaries for many years.

Sean has been instructing this form of tai chi for over 30 years now. In line with the teachings of his previous instructors, Sean does not receive a salary or any funds from Qing Long Tai Chi Arts Society for his teaching. In the established tradition of Mr. Moy Lin Shin, teaching is viewed as a privilege and is done from the heart, not for payment or self importance.

Qing Long instructors are driven by passion and the desire to heal and strengthen the body through diligent practice.
